Southern Comfort!

Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes
March 30, 2001 | Entertainment and Sports Arena | Raleigh, North Carolina
Bus Trip

Another bus trip to Raleigh! But this time we brought backup- Simon’s Soldiers!!! 45 members of the Crew played hookie from work on Friday, March 30 to hit the road for the Simon’s Soldiers night, Part 2. A DC-101 promotion brought 5 buses full of Caps fans to help us cheer on the boys. We truly brought the house down before and during warm-ups with rousing chants of “Whose House? Our House!” and “C-A-P-S, CAPS CAPS CAPS!” A great trip was blemished at the end of the game when very poor officiating in OT cost the Caps the game and our chance to clinch the division title in their building. But the Crew headed home with a point in the standings and the division title at hand…

The Big Apple Bit Us

Washington Capitals at New York Rangers
March 19, 2001 | Madison Square Garden | New York, New York

Mark Messier scored a short-handed goal about six minutes into the game, but Calle Johansson responded with a power play marker of his own less than a minute later. That would be the end of the tie, as New York brought it to the Caps with three goals more in the 1st. Two Caps tallies bookended another Rangers goal in the 2nd, and a final NY score in the 3rd put a coda on the 6-3 home win for the Blueshirts.

Our First Bus Trip!

Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes
February 24, 2001 | Entertainment and Sports Arena | Raleigh, North Carolina
Bus Trip

The Caps Road Crew’s second trip to Carolina proved to be its greatest trip yet… On February 24, forty die hard Road Crewers hopped on the bus and headed to Raleigh to raise Cain and help the Caps beat the ‘Canes! With a quick stop at what is surely Raleigh’s only ice skating, er, hockey store, the Crew was off to the the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena. After nearly bringing the roof down before and during the warmups, the Crew headed upstairs and joined the Caps Fan Club in taking over vocal control of the arena and spurring on the Caps to a hard fought 2-1 victory on Andrei Nikolishin’s 3rd period game winner!

Caps Western Canada Swing, Part II

Washington Capitals at Vancouver Canucks
February 14, 2001 | General Motors Place | Vancouver, British Columbia

Photos from the Caps Road Crew trip to Western Canada… Stop #2- Vancouver, B.C.! The trek continues to the Pacific. An early flight from Calgary to Vancouver gives the Crew a little time to rest before the night’s activities. An unbelievable 4-3 O.T. victory with Adam Oates netting the game winner RIGHT in front of us! But the fun was only about to begin…a visit to the ritzy Shark Club (not remotely like the ones here) provided some nice photo opportunities as we ran into a bunch of familiar faces – THE CAPS! A late night was followed by a relaxing day of sight-seeing in beautiful Vancouver the next day.

Finishing the Home and Home Series

Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins
December 2, 2000 | FleetCenter | Boston, Massachusetts

Departing after the Caps/Bruins matchup at MCI Center on Friday and driving all night, the Crew was treated to a classic 2-0 Caps road victory over the lethargic Bruins at the FleetCenter in the second night of a home and home. Joe Reekie scored the game winner less than four minutes into the 3rd, and Steve Konowalchuk scored the 2nd and final goal of the game less than a minute later. It would be Olaf Kolzig’s second shutout of the young season.
